I had built some plywood boats before but after two weeks at the WoodenBoat School in August 2017 it was time for a more ambitious project. I begun building in October 2017 and finished LILY an year later.
LI’L BOAT was launched September 3, 2013 in Egg Harbor, WI. Hull was stripped planked using Atlantic White Cedar and sheathed in fiberglass cloth and epoxy. Transom, seats, and trim are Mahogany. Flooring is Cumaru and spars are Douglas Fir.
Chesapeake Light Craft strip built hybrid by Bob Silverman (2nd time boatbuilder) - wood duck hybrid 12 with white alaskan cedar and red western cedar planks. Took me 2 months and really enjoyed the build.
Taking just three years to complete this Karl Stambaugh designed centerboard ketch, Mort Hyslop launched the EMILY P on July 15, 2002 in Northern Lake Michigan. He used marine fir plywood for the hull, built over Douglas fir frames and covered with cloth and epoxy.
Brian Emblin used several sources for help in the construction of his skin-on-frame kayak: "Wood and Canvas Kayak Building" by George Putz, "The Wood and Canvas Canoe" by Jerry Stelmok and Rollin Thurlow, and a video from North Bay Canoe Company in North Bay Ontario, Canada.
Andrew Green recently took to the water in Wisconsin in his Wee Lassie.
The Swan is a CLC Light Craft “Wood Duckling 8” built over a two week period by 9 year-old McKenzie Kaufman and her grandfather Charles McParland of Tega Cay, SC. She was launched on August 6th on Lake Wylie in South Carolina.
Thomas Mayenburg built this 12' 8" car-top Modified McInnis Bateau with his brother and a friend. The design is from John Gardner's Building Classic Small Craft, Vol. 2. They used 3/8" plywood on the bottom, and 3/8" red cedar strakes.
Tim Johnson built this 12′ Huntington Harbor Kayak from plans provided on the Spira International website. He writes that it was fun to build and now he wants to build something bigger.
