Lindwall and Sons, Santa Barbara, CA

Lindwall and Sons Boatbuilders launched ANGELINA on August 13, 1944 to be used for fishing. In 1957, Willard Shepard bought her and converted her from a fishing trawler to a fishing yacht. Fred Hepp bought her in 2000, and kept her for a few years until Charles Lindwall bought her back in 2003.

New to both boating and boat construction, newly retired Ed Cataldo needed a project to keep him out of trouble. He saw Arch Davis' Penobscot 14 design while at the barbershop. Despite his lack of skill, he found Arch's instrctions.

Howard Elmer says that Anthony Lake, at 8500 feet elevation, is one of the most beautiful lakes in Oregon, beautiful enough for the launch of his Cosine Wherry CHERIE B. Howard’s son, Sage, is shown here at the oars on Lake Anthony.

RIDGE RUNNER

Philip Bolduc spent less than $1000 in the construciton of this Sailfish look-alike. Chosen for its simplicity, he used stitch-and-glue construction with pieces of 1/4" plywood.

POINTED SHOES

Dave Palmer

POINTED SHOES is a Great Auk kayak built by Dave Palmer in both Michigan and Maryland. Dave used Nick Schade's book The Strip-Built Sea Kayak by Nick Schade, and recommends it highly.

PICKEREL

Using 4mm okoume plywood over a skeleton of poplar, Ed Neal built PICKEREL according to Michael Alford's plans, purchased from the WoodenBoat store, www.woodenboatstore.com.

ELLIE MAY

Bruce Hansen

This Whitefin 22, powered by a 90 hp Evinrude, cruises about 25 knots with four adults aboard and has a top seed of 35 mph. Bruce Hansen constructed it from plans by John Gengler, using epoxy and plywood over mahogany frames.

WATERWAYS

Bruce Mierke

Michael Matheson is the proud owner of WATERWAYS, a modified Surf Scoter launch, built by Bruce Mierke and designed by Sam Devlin. WATERWAYS is 3' longer than the plans called for, and also uses a 4-stroke outboard rather than the stern drive indicated by designer Sam Devlin.

LILLY

Jim Earl

Jim Earl modified Edwin Monk's plans for this Curlew sloop by giving it a gaff rig, instead of Marconi, and carvel planking, instead of lapstrake. He found the design in Monk's book "How to Build Wooden Boats, (Dover Pub, 1992).

FIDELIS

Noakes Yard of Newcastle, NSW

Lidgard Boatyard of Auckland, New Zealand, built and launched FIDELIS in 1964. She is a fast and beautiful boat with an impressive racing record. As is the way of aging boats she required an extensive refit in 2005.
