As noted in WB No. 284 in the article accompanying Ben Fuller’s “The Maine Peapods,” David Cockey has been conducting an ongoing study to compare the shapes and performance characteristics of a variety of these classic double-ended Maine workboats.

From 1906 to 1913, the boats of the German Sonder class competed in international regattas organized to foster friendship among various countries—and particularly between the United States and Germany. These contests, described in WoodenBoat No. 284 (January/February 2022) resulted in more than 100 American-designed and -built Sonder boats.
