A 14' Classic Style Runabout

A versatile, 5-metre utility runabout for cottagers, anglers and day trippers, ideal for the first-time builder.

Based loosely on the Folkboat, this plywood lapstrake double-ender combines comforting rough-water ability, and good looks.

Construction: Lapstrake plywood over laminated frames.

Alternative construction: Traditional plank on frame, strip or cold-molded.

Here's a handy boat that can be rowed, sailed, and powered with up to three large adults, and it "nests" to take up less space.

The Swifty 12 is the most popular boat in the Shell Boats fleet, with several hundred built from our kits and plans. Docile and easily handled, the Swifty will plane on a reach in a good breeze, but you will have to work very hard to get it to capsize.

An outboard skiff with a wide bottom and moderate rocker that contribute to stability and the ability to carry weight back aft.

• Construction: Cross-planked bottom, lapstrake sides

The length of the American Whitehall of the 19th century was between 13′ and 23′. 16′ was the most typical length and the boats were built for 2 or 3 rowers.

Developed in response to requests from heavier and wider paddlers who also wanted a shorter boat, this stable load carrier is excellent for the novice kayaker.

This is a larger version of my 28ft Gypsy sailing catamaran and is a 34′ offshore cruiser. It has essentially the same cuddy as Gypsy as that has proven a comfortable size for a couple and occasional guests.
