Launching on the river

"If you want something nice, build it yourself." I've wanted a boat most of my life but was never in a position to afford or transport one. But, last summer I decided I couldn't wait any longer and attempted building my first boat. 400 labor hours and countless new woodworking skills later it was done! I am now the proud owner of a 15' Rangeley Cedar Strip Lake boat, and it is a beauty. I ordered the plans from Newfound Woodworks but sourced and milled all of my own materials. The boat sports a cedar hull, ash keel, mahogany seats, ash & keel gunnels, and custom cast bronze oarlocks.

Named for feisty duck in Hagar the Horrible, this small boat is a Milgate Duck Punt. Built of plywood in the "stitch and glue" method, she was built from the free plans found online and launched at the Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival in St. Michaels MD on October 6.

Antilles 46’ S+S designed for Percy Chubb and built by Director 1960

In 1984 Antilles took the five of us and Tilly the dog for a 2 year sail to Venezuela. Since then we had many adventures, living aboard, cruising, racing, and day sailing. Now the crew of 5 is one. Time for someone else to enjoy the delight of Antilles.

1941 Arrow wood sailboat, 18' with trailer

NIMBUS was raced out of Sheridan Shores Yacht Club (Wilmette Harbor, IL) in the 1940s by her original owner, Dr. Earl Lux. About 65 years later, his grandson commissioned a full restoration at West Bay Boat Works in Traverse City, MI. Nimbus has been resting on her trailer in covered, climate-controlled storage in northern Michigan for the past three years. Prior to that, she was sailed every summer on Lower Herring Lake. If you have any questions or would like to schedule a time to come see the boat, please let me know! Thanks for looking.

1957 Ted Carpentier 47' Ketch with 11' Beam 7' Draft. Hull is strip-planked tongue and grooved. Customer built for CEO of United Airlines

This vessel was built by Naval Architect Ted Carpentier who also worked as an engineer for Hughes Aircraft and was a personal friend of Howard Huges. It was custom built for the CEO of United Airlines (in fact, the original spinnaker is in United Airlines colors). I have owned this boat since 1996. The interior has been refinished, Elco EN7000 motor installed and a new carbon fiber mast and boom and new toilet are ready to be installed. She is really close to being done, just needs someone with time and TLC. She is a fine vessel with no evidence of decay in the hull. The hull was last sounded with a hammer when drydocked and appeared to be tight and sound. It as been docked in the San Francisco bay area for sometime and it still is very dry. It has a teak deck and is Coast Guard Vessel documented. “Sea Wings” really is a great name for this boat. Her design creates a feeling of flying while sailing. Asking price is $95,000. Please feel free to email me to receive more pictures of this historical sailing vessel or with questions.
