Beautiful lines of teak and mahogany—evocative of the style in vogue during the 1930s, grace this rare example of a Marblehead wooden motor yacht built by the Marblehead Boat Yard Co. of Biddeford, Maine. “CLARA HAYES” has been in constant, protected drydock storage for the past 32 years on Long Island’s Great South Bay. Owner’s family began a restoration in 1990s and 2000s, but is not able to move forward, and therefore reluctantly seeking new, restoration-minded owner. Palmer V8 gasoline engine. This collaboration between Starling Burgess, Francis Herreshoff, and Frank Paine is well known as a high performance, extremely comfortable, day sailing/racing, classic sloop. Conceived as a long waterline, low displacement 30′, these boats sail like a dream and perform like boats designed more recently. In 2021 this boat was completely reframed but the scantlings of her structure were boosted to make her stronger. Additionally, her backbone, keel, and forekeel were replaced.
