Shoal Water Classic

For the right person, couple, or small family, Tegolin could be a comfortable and spirited little sailing yacht. She is a 26 foot long masthead sloop with an 8 foot beam and shoal water draft of 2.5 feet. She is designed by the the renowned marine designer, writer, and editor Maurice Griffiths. The design, an Athena, is very similar to the popular Eventide. The Athena has slightly different design specifications meant for the professional builder as the Eventide was intended to be built by amateurs. She is hard chined and has a bilge keel and can easily dry out in tidal waters or be towed on a flat trailer. Currently Tegolin is set up to sleep 2 to 3 on settee berths. The mast can be stepped which opens up the world of canals in the UK and beyond.

The boat was professionally built in the mid-1970s and is constructed of larch over oak. She was re-planked around 2000 and was professionally encapsulated with the West Marine System in the 2010s. She has been dry-docked since 2017 and was sound when last on the water. She was equipped with a B&G chartplotter, Raymarine autopilot, and Garmin in 2016 which all worked when last sailing. She also has a Taylor cooker, hot water tank, sink/shower, and Lavac head. Also, she is equipped with two large freshwater tanks and a wastewater tank, and has bronze and brass fittings and hardware throughout.

What clearly needs attention: we had the engine taken out; she’ll need a new one. Also, she needs a mast, but the boom, sails, and hardware for the mast are available. The hatch needs some attention generally and may need to be mostly rebuilt. She needs fresh antifouling, topsides, and varnish.

Tegolin is free to the right person that is ready for this project. My partner and I recently took on this project a few months ago and sadly due to an unforeseen change in our finances cannot continue. We would like to pass this boat on to someone who sees her potential and intends to get her sailing again. Tegolin is currently dry docked in Pwllheli, Wales.
