West River 18

The West River 18 is the descendant of the old West River 180 model of the 1990's. At the time of its 2002 launch, the Harris-designed West River 18 is probably the most thoroughly-tested kayak we've ever offered. It's an unusally capable boat, fast enough to win races in most events but also appropriate for touring. A hybrid of many good features, the West River's hull is multi-chined and has plenty of rocker for low wetted surface, while the bilges are firm so you can still carve turns as in a hard-chined hull. The cockpit is unusually roomy for such a fast boat, so long-legged people can be comfortable. Full bow sections will get you up and over chop and powerboat waves. A typical West River 18 kit builder will be looking for a fast, comfortable, versatile sea kayak with good all-round handling, and will favor the multi-chine look.
