ALCEDO

This small ketch was built in 1967 by G.A. Kroes Bootbouwers & Zonen in Kampen, the Netherlands. She is a heavy displacement and solid constructed ship easy to handle. She has had only four owners and was maintained for 50 years at the builders shipyard. Since 2019, the current owner has opted for a new location and taken maintenance in his own hands with the assistance of a very seasoned professional wooden boat builder, Johan Prins in Workum, the Netherlands.Due to the fact that she has only 3′ 8″ draft, she is ideal for the Wadden Sea area, but proved herself on several occasions on the North Sea, even during gale forces up to 10 Bft (50 knots+). She was bought from the partner of the previous owner after the owner passed away. The previous owner, Gait Kroes, was also the designer and builder of the yacht and this ship was one of his favourite designs and not without reason. She sails like a dream and is much faster than one would expect from such a small and heavy solid ship. Over the past ten years major repair work has been undertaken (new wiring and systems, new engine, new upholstery and many other major repairs/replacements). She is a comfortable cruiser though not very spacious inside. In 2018 she participated in the Colin Archer Memorial Race from Lauwersoog in the Netherlands to Larvik in Norway. The current owner has sailed this beauty for more than 20 years and hopes that his children will eventually take care of her. She is a very pleasant family boat accommodating 4/5 adults and has a safe a cot for a baby/toddler. No luxury cruiser, but a boat for safe sailing, to be admired and cherished.
