YouthBoat Open House at Hudson River Maritime Museum

The Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston, NY, will host an open house for prospective students at the museum’s Riverport Wooden Boat School, 86 Rondout Landing, on Tuesday, January 15, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Come learn more about the YouthBoat program and meet the program’s instructors. Students and parents will be able to tour the workshop, ask questions and see the work of our current students. The open house is open to the public free of charge.

YouthBoat is a free afterschool program for teenagers, ages 14-18. It is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-5 p.m., starting on January 29, 2019 and ending on May 30. YouthBoat is designed to empower youth, build character and foster teamwork through the traditional craft of wooden boatbuilding and on-the-water activities. In YouthBoat, students from diverse backgrounds work alongside skilled shipwrights and craftspeople. Through boatbuilding students put science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills to work as they follow building plans, use specialized tools and materials, and solve problems.

This program is funded by private donations so that all teenagers can participate regardless of their financial situation. Students can download an application on our website at hrmm.org/youthboat.html and return it in person or by mail to Hudson River Maritime Museum, 50 Rondout Landing, Kingston, NY, 12401 by Friday, January 18th, 2019. Applicants selected for interviews will be contacted in early January. For more information, please contact Paul Daley at 845-338-0071, ext 11.
