Village Community Boathouse opens for the 2019 season

Come and join us for Community Rowing in traditional Whitehall gigs, captained by experienced New York Harbor coxswains. See the city from a new perspective: the water. Free and open to all; no experience or reservations necessary! From Sunday, April 21st, we will commence the 2019 season of community rowing every Sunday afternoon. Please join us for our opening day from noon and taste some urban rowing. Boat, oars, water and food and life jackets will be provided.

The Village Community Boathouse (VCB.NYC) is an all-volunteer, donation-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides free public access to the Hudson River Estuary utilizing a fleet of traditional rowboats, that are built at our shop on Pier 40 in conjunction with students from local schools. VCB invites the public, including youth from local schools, to utilize the city’s waterfront and harbor, improving people’s quality of life, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship, and establishing a spirit of collaboration in crewing or building a boat. VCB has introduced tens of thousands of international visitors, local residents, and young people to the joy of rowing on the Hudson and other waterways that surround New York City.
