Sail the Fleet

-

Camp together on Greens Island. Sail, row and enjoy a variety of traditional, distinctively rigged boats with a community of other wooden boat enthusiasts. No prior boating experience necessary! Our fleet will include boats with dipping lug, square, sprit rigs, and possibly more!

Traditional boat designs have evolved over many centuries to better handle the demands of a specific fishery, or more efficient transport, and to stand against the constant strains of the ocean and coastal weather. Each rig and hull shape is tied to the bodies of water they worked. Each design represents a cultural ethos, too, of folk wisdom rising from initial scarcity, local ingenuity, and resourcefulness.

Rowing and sailing these boats over a long weekend will allow us to tap more deeply into a spirit of collaboration, and of the diverse cultural backgrounds belonging to each boat.
