Lecture: Story of the DRAGON

The Herreshoff Marine Museum’s Annual Lecture Series presents Doug Park and his talk, “Redd’s Pond Boatworks: Story of the Dragon.”

DRAGON, a near replica of the 1882 Herreshoff steam launch #94 recently donated to Herreshoff Marine Museum, was built in 2017 by Doug Park of Redd's Pond Boatworks in Marblehead, Massachusetts. DRAGON was featured in an article by Stan Grayson in WoodenBoat issue 261. Come for Doug’s talk on the history of this unique vessel’s design and stay for the tale of how an original engine survived over a century to find its way back to sea again.

The Herreshoff Marine Museum’s Annual Lecture Series brings the knowledge of established authors, sailors, and experts directly to the public. Learn from some of the best sailors, writers, historians, and accomplished individuals amongst historic Herreshoff Boats and the America’s Cup Hall of Fame. Tickets are available online, by calling 401-253-5000, or at the door.

Reception begins at 6 p.m., lecture at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for HMM members and $18 for non-members
