IMFF off-season screening of "Anote's Ark"

Join us at 6 p.m. for a free screening of Anote’s Ark, an up-close and personal view of the crisis faced by the low-lying atoll nation of Kiribati, one of the most remote places on the planet. Set against the backdrop of international climate negotiations and the fight to recognize climate displacement as an urgent human rights issue, the story centers on two central characters: His Excellency Anote Tong, President of the Nation of Kiribati; and Sermary Tiare, an i-Kiribati mother of six who chooses to migrate her family away from the islands. Interwoven with the stories of these two main characters are sub-stories about proposed solutions to the crisis. How does one build a metaphorical ark to save an entire nation?

Stacey Cook, a Maine summer resident who served in the Peace Corps in Kiribati, will take questions from the audience after the film. 

This is the final film in the three-part IMFF Off Season series, and is offered for free thanks to a grant from the Maine Arts Expansion Grant of the Maine Community Foundation. Donations are gratefully accepted to support the International Maritime Film Festival.
