The War of 1812 pitted the nascent US Navy against the might of the British Royal Navy. There were series of epic naval battles that are exquisitely depicted in a series of fifteen highly detailed paintings by the renowned maritime artist Maarten Platje.

The product of an initiative by Navesink Maritime Heritage Association and partners Cavalier Galleries of New York and Twin Lights Historical Society, the exhibitions can be viewed in two galleries at Twin Lights Lighthouse through November 22nd (Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.). Entrance is free.

There is an exhibition guide, available for purchase at the museum store, that describes the paintings and has essays on the various aspects of the war.
