Finishing and fitting out the NEW Calendar Islands 20 built last summer

In this week we will be workshopping to the max on getting the new boat finished for the School - your help will go towards getting this new design in the water and a part of the WoodenBoat fleet to be used classes in 2025. We will finish interior construction, fitting out and rigging. We’ll have the opportunity to finish the spars and install centerboard and rudder. It promises to be one of the most exciting, hands-on and busiest classes at the School in 2024!

Join Clint Chase, the designer, as we work to finish out the Calendar Islands 20, WB edition.  This boat is based on the Calendar islands Yawl 18, a boat Clint designed and sells as a kit through his company, Chase Small Craft.  The 20’ version has been modified for the school to be used as an open boat sail trainer.  The hull and basic structure were built by students last summer.  Volunteers will do some work this winter and into out Alumni Work Weeks.

This class will be a little bit of everything as we work to finish the spars, rig the rudder and centerboard, fit out interior parts, do a little painting and perhaps even start to fit out the sailing rig!  We start a lot of boats here at the school, but it’s not every week we get to work on final details.  Perhaps you have a boat that’s not quite finished, or you’re just curious about how all the little details go together. This class is a great way to gain some experience, make some new friends, and have a part in creating something that will be in the school’s fleet for many year’s to come.
