27th Annual Georgetown Wooden Boat Show

-

The Georgetown Wooden Boat Show — always held on the third weekend in October — offers fun for the whole family. The 27th annual show will feature more than 140 classic wooden boats ranging in size from kayaks to yachts displayed in the water and on Front Street. Visitors will be able to meet and talk to wooden boat craftsmen, manufacturers, and owners. Maritime art, crafts, models and educational exhibits will also be on display.

On Saturday, October 15, a special attraction will be the Wooden Boat Challenge. Teams of two will race to build a rowing skiff within a 4 hour time limit and then test their boats for seaworthiness in a rowing relay on the Sampit River. Teams will be scored on building speed, quality of workmanship and rowing speed. Cash prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place teams.

Wooden Boat Show events will take place on the waterfront and along Front Street in Historic Downtown Georgetown. The Show is produced by the Harbor Historical Association, a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization, and is the major fundraiser for the South Carolina Maritime Museum.
