Xaadas Tluuwaay (People’s Canoe) is the result of two years of dedicated work by carver Gitijang Stormy Hamar of Kasaan, Alaska. Crafted from a single piece of western red cedar, the canoe follows the traditional style of the Haida people of the Pacific Northwest.
Built starting in 2008, launched June 21, 2012 at Latimer’s Landing near Shelton, WA. Plans for the hull shape are from the Harbormaster, model #HL-485, by Glen Marine Designs in Bellflower CA.

This was my first retirement project and my first boat build. It was built from a kit and went together without major problems. It came out of the boat shed officially on April 8th, 2024, hence its name!
