Jun'ichi launched KIRI, a 15'6" pulling boat designed by William Atkin in May 2002. He uses KIRI (Japanese for 'mist') in the waters near Victoria, BC. KIRI is equipped with three rowing stations and a 4-hp Evinrude for propulsion.
MARILYN D has a 26' hull of intact cold-molded spruce. She was originally called IMPULSE and owned by Cabot Lyman, who used it as a commuter boat for 10 years, and was the original 'Jet' boat out of Lyman Morse. Mike Perlis and Lyman Morse restored her over the winter of 2001-2002.
Dave Nelson took three years to build this Cosine Wherry designed by John Hartsock. He stretched the boat out a foot and a half, but kept the 52" the same as called for by Hartsock. Dave also modified the stem and transom shapes and modified the thwarts.
At just 39 pounds, this canoe is designed for easy portages in Derek Coleman's home waters of Killarney Park, Ontario. Derek designed an asymmetric hull with an adjustable, removable seat and nicely decorated bow stern decks.
The year 2002 was a busy year for Mitchell Skinner. He built three wooden boats. The smallest is an 8' sprit-rigged catboat SIMPLY MAGIC, that he designed for his wife to use with her dog, Magic. Since this photo was taken, a larger sail has been added.
Though the design by B. N. Morris called for a 17' canoe, Mitchell Skinner shortened the design to 14' (with 33" beam)and turned it into a solo canoe, QUIET WATERS. He will be using this canoe to fly fish on the lakes of northern Maine.
FEATHER is a 16' cedar strip sea kayak Guilllemot design by Nick Schade of East Glastonbury, CT This is the first boat Mitchell Skinner built. It was launched in May 2002 and he uses it on the coast of Maine and NH.
This boat was designed and built by Robert Wallace between October 2001 and May 2002. He launched her in May on White Oak Pond in northeastern Pennsylvania. The skiff has a 10' LOA and maximum beam of 39". She is a semi-V hull.
Dick Harrington built this Iain Oughtred-designed Acorn skiff for Dave Clarke. Her overall length is 8' and she can be rowed or sailed. The skiff was built of okoume plywood.
Doyle Herman started restoration of this 15' Wagemaker in September of 2001. He launched it in May 2002. He stripped the boat to a bare hull, replaced the deck plywood and part of the transom. Wolverine Boats of Grand Rapids, MI built the boat in 1957.
