Welcome aboard The Impossible Machine. Originally launched in 1966, this classic wooden sailing vessel was designed by Kurt Oehlman built by the at the Louw & Halvorsen shipyard in Cape Town SA to be used as a training vessel for the South African Navy.
S/V Labora was built in 1939 in Esbjerg, Denmark, as a traditional Danish Hajkutter—one of the famously tough North Sea cutters built to work year-round in the roughest seas on earth.
I bought the boat in 2012 from the original builder in Fairfield, Connecticut. It was already more than twenty years old, and I had just moved into a small apartment with water access to New Haven Harbor. This was my first proper rowboat, and I was on the water constantly.

This is the launch of my cutter based a design by C P Kunhardt from 1885. I trimmed the fantail off the original design and reduced the deck length from the original 17', to 14'. The finished boat will have a cutter rig and bowsprit, a single berth, a writing desk, and a small galley forward.
I have 7 International 110 in various states of disrepair that are looking for enthusiastic owners to repair them and participate in the 110 class or just enjoy one of the most ingenious designs of the 20th century. All major components, keels, rudders, masts and booms are included.
