Vessel Overview
Class Act is a 42' express cruiser designed by A.M. Deering and built in 1946 by Herbert Ellis of Chicago, Illinois. Constructed just after WWII, she incorporates quality surplus parts from the PT-boat program, giving her a unique place in American yachting history.
Her maiden voyage was in Seattle, and she has remained in Pacific Northwest waters ever since. Kept in fresh water under covered moorage, she has benefited from consistent stewardship and major upgrades by her past owners.
Construction & Systems
• Hull: Carvel-planked Honduras mahogany (1-1/8″), refastened with bronze screws (2014)
• Frames & Keel: Steam-bent white oak frames on 9″ centers; white oak keel
• Transom: Honduras mahogany, rebuilt with double-planking, rebuilt
• Deck & Cabin: T&G deck with plywood/fiberglass overlay; canvas on coach roof and aft trunk, replaced 2014; varnished mahogany cabin sides with large pilothouse windows
• Engines: Twin Perkins 4-236 diesels, ~85 hp each, with Borg Warner Velvet Drive transmissions (2.10:1 port / 1.91:1 starboard)
• Cooling: Keel coolers (bronze tube Walter 2-pass system)
• Fuel Economy: Cruises comfortably at 8 knots / 1800 RPM, burning ~4 gph
• Electrical: Fully updated in new wiring 2014, with new batteries, monitoring & charging systems, and isolation transformer 2024
