Swan’s Isle

Swan’s Isle came to us from Swan’s Island (near Bar Harbor via Kittery, Me. She was missing her suite of sails along with the gaff spar.The chap we purchased her from had replanted the top of the fish box along with a portion of the aft deck. He guessed her age at around 40 years and indicated she appeared to have been on the hard for perhaps ten years. Otherwise she was in quite good shape.My efforts involved building a new gaff with much appreciated input from Harold Burnham. Harold built me a set of sails out of Oceanis Cream Cotton.Refinishing extended from spars, main deck and trim, addition of chain plates/ standing rigging and pin rails. The hull planking above the waterline needed attention, the plank seam filler had degraded to the consistency of cement so I opted to bee out the seams and ended up using a swipe of British made Bostik 920FS (Like it better then 5200).The primer/ paint/ colours come from George Kirby Jr Paints, New Bedford, MA.The drive we’ve fitted is electric, a kicker that hangs off the stbd. side, 24 volts fed from 260 AH batteries.
