BUD

Modified Doug Hylan Beach Pea, built from Meranti plywood as a tender for our Gartside/Jespersen yawl, “La Vie en Rose”. Storage/flotation compartments have been installed under the stern sheets using the water-tight hatch kits from Port Townsend Watercraft. Full frames, laminated from Alaskan yellow cedar, have been substituted for the thwart knees. This allows us to sit close to the gunwales facing forward and use canoe paddles for poking around anchorages. Kevlar tape has been set in epoxy to the bottom and garboard strakes for protection on rocky beaches. She rows and tows beautifully and handles lumpy water with ease.
