SILK PURSE - 1903 Trailerable Gaff Family Cruiser
A common restoration story
The boat originally had a “bathtub ring” of rot in the 1” x 1 ¼” steam bent ribs. ALL ribs were either replaced or sistered. Sawn ribs (also doubling as floor timbers) were scarfed into the steam bent ribs to stiffen the middle of the boat for the rigors of trailering. Only one white cedar plank needed replacing. The “park bench” cockpit was replaced with a bridge deck cockpit draining into the motor well. The Marconi rig was changed to gaff, with a tabernacle replacing the keel-stepped mast.
