SARAH MEAD

I own and operate the 32′ Friendship Sloop Sarah Mead, built by Newbert and Wallace in 1965. Purchased her in 2006, replaced an aluminum mast with traditional wooden spars and all sails were replaced. Refastened in 2009, original cedar on white oak frames. Repowered with an electric turbine via a DEP grant in 2013, making Sarah Mead Maine’s first electric propulsion commercial vessel. Have made contact with the original owners, the White family — including Sarah Mead herself — and am surprised she’s not already registered. We use her for tours in Boothbay Harbor currently, although our home port is still in Muscongus Bay.
