BETTE S

BETTE S was built in 1968 by Ralph Stanley and Emerson (Tucker) Spurling in Southwest Harbor, ME. She was named after BETTE SPURLING, Tucker’s wife. She was an active lobster boat in SW Harbor continuously until the summer of 2010. At that point she was sold to Rick Goode, the current owner, and transported to Beaufort, NC. She has retained her original name, as listed in the appendix of Ralph Stanley’s book. While at Triton Marine Services (Beaufort, NC), she was upgraded to a picnic style lobster cruiser. The original Chevrolet 292 engine was replaced with a Perkins 85 HP diesel, and modest sleeping accommodations added down below. A small galley was added in the cockpit, as well as upgrades to the electrical system and navigational instruments. She has since made the return trip to SW Harbor to get the approval of Mrs. Spurling (Bette)....whose only comment was “she sure is gussied up!”
