Lecture: Schooners of Narragansett Bay
While researching a feature-length piece about the origins of the schooner rig for the Rhode Island Sea Grant publication 41N, journalist and author Elaine Lembo came across a wealth of photos and information about the “18 wheelers of the age,” including those in the oyster trade, that plied the waters of Narragansett Bay over the last century. This talk is a casual look back through that now-vanished era.
Elaine Lembo is a writer, editor, and sailor with an extensive background in the general and marine press. Her published works have appeared in a number of newspapers and magazines, including the Providence Journal, Cruising World, Soundings, and Yachts International.
