Europe Week 2014: Classic Yacht Regatta in Norway

-

In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the Norwegian Constitution the Royal Norwegian Yacht Club will host Europe Week 2014, a unique regatta for classic wooden sailing yachts in the Oslo fjord this July. 92 yachts have entered representing eight countries, Austria, Denmark, Germany, Netherlands, Russia, Sweden, USA and Norway.

The largest yacht is the 28 metre gaff rigged ketch, «Eileen II», shown above, while the smallest, the 4.75 metre «Oslodinghy», once a popular trainer for juniors, now raced actively by an enthusiastic group of veterans.

Adding to the interest of metre boats will be eight 10 metres, nine 9 metres, and nine 8 metres, including H M King Harald's NOR 33, SIRA. The 5.5 metre FRAM II, a gift to the then Crownprince Harald on his 21st birthday in 1958, is now under German ownership and will be present in the regatta as well.

No less that ten of the boats that took part in the Europe Week 1914 are still sailing and will be racing again a hundred years later, We wish them wholeheartedly welcome back!
