Azorean Whalers: A Photographic Retrospective (1976-2012)

View a collection of photographs by National Geographic photographers Louis Mazzantenta and Gemina Garland-Lewis at this opening reception and exhibit to kick off the ninth International Azorean Whaleboat Regatta in New Bedford, Mass. Mazzantenta’s work features never-before-seen images from a whale hunt in Pico in 1976. Garland-Lewis returned in 2012 after the end of whaling to capture images of the same whalers, their boats, and coastal villages in present day.

The exhibit will take place at the New Bedford Whaling Museum at 6:00pm. For more information and a full schedule of regatta events, visit http://azoreanmaritime.org/events/international-azorean-whaleboat-regat…
