The Newfoundland Schooner ...
A Workhorse of Beauty, Speed and Grace September 7-8, 2012 – Winterton, NL
Our 5th Annual Wooden Boat Conference will be held in Winterton on September 7-8, 2012.
Newfoundland’s Newest Wooden Schooner Arrives in Winterton. The Wooden Boat Museum of NL is thrilled that Henry Vokey will kick off this year’s conference by sailing his 44′ 2 masted wooden schooner into Winterton Harbour on Friday afternoon! A flotilla of small boats will greet Henry upon his arrival – you won’t want to miss this! Bring your boats and be part of the celebrations! It will indeed be a memorable event.
Conference Sessions – Saturday’s sessions will focus around the Schooner with presentations from Cle Newhook - The Newhooks of Trinity – A Family of Master Shipbuilders; Alan Cass – The Schooner in the Conception Bay Trades; and Ted Rowe – Ships & Shipwrights of Heart’s Content.
Our documentation committee will also update us on the documentation program carried out this summer in Glovertown.
Show and Tell – Do you have any models, half models, three piece molds, pictures or any other items you would like others to see? We will have tables set up on Friday for you to display your items. If you plan on bringing things to display, contact Howard Cooper at hwrd.cooper@gmail.com and we’ll reserve a table for you.
Boats in the Harbour – We also need to know if you plan on joining the flotilla on Friday afternoon. The Winterton Harbour Authority will need to know in advance how many boats they need to accommodate. Please ensure that you fill out the information on the registration sheet to guarantee a berth.
Kitchen Party – Our Kitchen Party has been a major success at past conferences! Melvin Green, Director of WBMNL has been hosting the Kitchen Party since the beginning. Be sure to bring along your guitars, accordions, ugly sticks, etc. and join Melvin onstage Saturday night!
Spouses Program – This year we are offering a full spouse’s program. Join us on the wharf (or in your boat!) as we welcome Henry’s schooner to Winterton Harbour on Friday afternoon and our Meet & Greet on Friday night. Saturday morning join the “Hikers” or “Potters” and spend a relaxing afternoon at the Wine and Cheese in Rosanne’s Garden! Cost of the program will be $40.00, which includes your Conference Dinner ticket. Early Bird special – Register before August 15, 2012 and received a $20.00 discount! Deadline for registration will be August 30th.
