1912 Tug DELAWARE Restoration "Apprentice for a Day" Weekends
-
Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum offers a number of hands-on programs in its shipyard throughout the year through its Apprentice for a Day Program. These include demonstrations, workshops, intensives with visiting master craftsmen, on-the-water experiences, and customizable programming.
Work with CBMM shipwrights throughout 2020 to learn the fundamentals of boatbuilding, by taking part in the stem-to-stern restoration of 1912 river tug DELAWARE. Participants will have the opportunity to work on the project from lofting to launch. Through March, participants will learn how to make patterns from DELAWARE’s lofted body plan, and turn them into the frames that will become part of the vessel’s backbone. Throughout the spring and summer, participants will learn the art of spiling planks. DELAWARE is constructed with both sawn and steam-bent frames, giving participants the opportunity to learn both techniques. Materials are included with registration.
Cost: $55 for a single day or $95 for a weekend, with a 20% discount for members
