I wanted to share with you a couple photographs of my Night Heron kayak (LOA 18′, beam of 20″), designed by Nick Shade of Guillemot Kayaks . The boat took nearly two years of weekends and evenings to complete, with work proceeding at a glacial pace during some periods.
This 7'10" pram/kayak was built from plans in Gavin Atkin's Ultrasimple Boatbuilding, in spring of 2011 by Stephen Nickles, and launched this past June, my brave wife Christine is at the helm.
NAMAKI II was first launched in New Hampshire in 1960 after Edgar Davis built her for C. A. Harrington. In 2008, Peter Knocke hired Rick Viera to repair a seeping chine log in 2008. Repairs involved replacement of several planks, the chine logs, gussets, and frames.

Walter Hansen completed this glued lapstrake tender in April 2011, just in time for the Keels and Wheels Concours d’Elegance in Seabrook, Texas, at which he received a Corinthian Award.
Ed Vickery helped to build and repair boats for quite a while before he built his first wooden surfboard. He built it from several woods including bamboo, black walnut, fir, aframosa, and paulownia; then covered everyting with a layer of 4-oz fiberglass.
After my 100 lb chocolate lab tipped me over last summer in my canoe and I felt he might tip over the lapstrake rower I build two years ago, I decided that I needed to build a boat he couldn't tip over.
JULES was launched on the island of Kauai this spring and Rob paddles her in the ocean waters behind reefs — primarily for fishing. with the outrigger, she is “stand up safe” and wonderful to fish from.
Flossie is, essentially, a New Haven Sharpie. She has been modified for use as a canal boat. 49' loa 11.5' beam 2.5' draft 16,500 disp.. Her chines have been truncated to provide a flat surface lying alongside a straight bank.
