Sailboats - Cruising

FULL MOON 27

Based on Tom Gillmer and Iver Franzen’s New Moon (an enlargement on Gillmer’s Blue Moon), this sailing vessel is intended to be a stout, seaworthy, offshore-capable passagemaker, with an emphasis on the balance between comfortable sea-keeping and good sailing abilities. She will be essentially a sloop rig, but with a shiftable inner forestay. Assume an auxiliary engine, probably a Yanmar 3-cylinder diesel. Four construction options are considered, with the design drawings showing the traditional plank-on-frame approach. In addition to the traditional approach, the other three options are all variations of wood-composite methods: Cold-molded, sheathed strip plank, and modified wood composite. Specifications will accompany drawings to discuss these options. Lofting is required. Plans include 9 sheets.
