Night Heron Kayak

Despite working at times “at a glacial pace” for two years, Stirling Cummings of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, finshed and launched his 18′ Night Heron kayak on a cold windy day in February 2012 on Jordan Lake, near Chapel Hill. Stirling reported that the boat performed wonderfully despite the weather conditions.Designed by Nick Schade of Guillemot Kayaks, the 43 lb. Night Heron is strip-built from spruce that Stirling got at a local building supply store. He bought all the other wood he needed from Chesapeake Light Craft. Stirling painted the hull and cockpit coaming white and varnished the deck.
