MAKAI

Bear Mountain Boat Shop of Peterborough Ontario provided the plans for this 16' Chestnut Prospector Canoe built by Brian Maiorano of Missoula, Montana. He named her MAKAI, which is Hawaiian for "toward the ocean". He accented the wood strip construction with black walnut gunwales, and cherry seat frames, decks, and yoke. He launched her in a snowstorm on Lindbergh Lake in Swan Valley, Montana on May 5, 2001. He plans to use for multi-day river and lake trips.
