EDIE

Patrick Dawson of Ottawa, Ontario, writes that he’s been wanting to build this boat for over 25 years. He adds, “I have been reading WoodenBoat for 30 years which, at least to me, explains why it has taken me so long to build EDIE—I kept seeing more boats that I wanted to build every other month.” Patrick bought the plans for Iain Oughtred's 11′9″ Acorn skiff from The WoodenBoat Store back in 1983. In 2011, he finally started building her in his basement. EDIE is 4mm plywood over mahogany frames, saturated with epoxy, and weighs about 150 pounds. Patrick lives near the Rideau River, in Ottawa, Ontario, and intends to row on the Rideau Canal and river system. He launched EDIE following a piper-led parade from his house to the river on August 29, 2012. He adds, “After launching and rowing EDIE, I now regret my misspent youth—so many boats, so little space in my basement.”
