DULWEN

DULWEN is a 1957 power cruiser designed by Ed Monk and built by Philbrook’s Boat Yard in Victoria, British Columbia. She was designed and built to be 32′ long, but recently owners Jan and Shelley Nielsen of West Wind Hardwood lengthened her hull by 3 feet. After completing the extension, they epoxied two layers of 1/4″ edge-grain red cedar veneer onto the hull below the waterline. Once she was back in the water, DULWEN floated 2″ higher, and went almost 2 knots faster given the same engine RPM, resulting in a 20% fuel-saving. If you are interested in lengthening your own boat, you can get more information at www.westwindhardwood.com.
