Cirrus Kayak

Jonathan Alvarez, a Rhode Island resident, built this 17′5″ Cirrus kayak over four-and-a-half years and launched her last Labor Day. He tells us that the birth of his daughter Magdalena was a welcome distraction during those building years. The design is by Vaclav Stejskal (10 Coolidge Hill Rd., Watertown, MA 02472; www.oneoceankayaks.com). Jonathan stitch-and-glued the plywood hull together then sheathed it in fiberglass. He plans to paddle the kayak along the New England coast and the waters of the Adirondack mountains.
