Charlotte

Built by Russ Sabia of Belmont, Massachusetts and donated to the 7 Lakes Alliance in Belgrade Lakes, Maine to help raise funds to support their land and water conservation efforts around the Belgrade Lakes.This solo canoe is 11′6″ with a 2′4″ beam and took approximately 120 hours to build. It is built to Tom Hill's design, “Charlotte,” and paddled like a kayak using a double paddle.Constructed using the glued lapstrake building technique described in Tom Hill’s book, Ultralight Boatbuilding. The canoe's planks are 4mm Okoume, and the breasthooks, stems, inwales and outwales are Western Red Cedar. The bottom is covered with Dynel fabric and coated with epoxy for abrasion resistance. Total weight is approximately 28 lbs.
