Boat Cruise Aboard F/V Veteran to Tacoma's Museum District
About the cruise: Skipper Mike Skrivanich will prepare an authentic Croatian pasta fazol (a ham shank, bean and vegetable soup), baguette and salad for lunch in our warm and cozy galley. The cruise will depart from Gig Harbor’s Maritime Pier and arrive at
Tacoma’s Dock Street Marina.
Passengers are welcome to explore Tacoma’s Museum of Glass, eat at the surrounding restaurants and then attend Nathan Patrick’s Skansie Shipbuilding Company presentation in the Washington State History Museum just across the Chihuly Bridge of Glass (walking distance from where the we will be docked). Volunteers will be available to allow visitors onto the dock and give tours aboard.
About the presentation: Join us for a Scholarly Selections presentation about The Skansie Shipbuilding Company. The Skansie family settled in Gig Harbor and became renowned shipbuilders producing over 200 wooden vessels known for their quality and craftsmanship. The Skansies not only made their mark on maritime history, but represent how immigrants turned patriotic citizens contributed to the Pacific Northwest. In this talk, Nathan Patrick, UTW History B.A., 2019, presents his original research on the local Skansie Shipbuilding Company. Scholarly Selections is a partnership with the University of Washington Tacoma.
