SKYLARK

SKYLARK is a 1947 Blanchard 33. She was designed by William Garden, who was in his 20’s when he drew the class. SKYLARK is number 3 of 9 built, the last being built as a yawl.My family was the second owner of the boat, purchasing her in 1959. We owned the boat from 1959 to 1974. Another boat replaced her as the family boat and I lost track of her for 40 years. After reaching out to the owner of another Blanchard 33 (AURA), I was able to obtain old phone numbers and locate her in the late summer of 2014. She was largely original but iron sickness was a problem, and she has been undergoing a deck-off restoration at Jensen Motor Boat Company in Seattle. Virtually all steel has been replaced from stem to stern with bronze, new garboards and broads, along with a new deck and coach roof, which were original plywood with canvas. Fortunately, the boat was fastened new with Everdur. The entire hull below water was re-fastened and re-caulked. The hull is now grooved, as it was before. The picture shows SKYLARK prior to restoration, lying on east Lake Union, about 5 blocks from where she was built! We anticipate launching in Spring 2016.
