Simplicity of construction, user friendliness (both for single or double) and high performance – all of this with reasonable costs. These are the main priorities which lie at the base of the DP 14’ design and which justify the main choices made, in particular:
Kahuna is a superb coastal and long-distance cruising boat, designed for modern wood/epoxy construction. The first boat was built in Australia, and several have been launched in the US. Others are under construction — in the US (New York) and in Europe (Italy, the UK and Russia).
Swansea Pilot Schooner, flush-decked cruiser, based on the earliest type (late 18th/early 19th century). This vessel is intended for open ocean cruising.
The TRICKY FIVE has been conceived for a precise scope: to realize a boat, which in relation to its size would maximize the ratio between speed and cost. This means that for a determined cost for materials and hours of construction required, it would be the fastest possible.
The Headwater Fourteen [H-14] was designed and the prototype built in the Summer of 1985 to test the viability of using frameless, stressed skin construction to build a serviceable Whitewater drift boat.
Build the Babson 14 from scratch! Plans include three variations on the hull: sheet ply (like our kits), glue-lap-ply, power, suitable for up to a 2 horsepower outboard.Plans contain 16 sheets of drawings, full-sized mold patterns so no lofting is required (no offsets are included with the plans)
