Sailboats - Cruising

Young Baggie

YOUNG BAGGIE, with a hull length of 4 m, is not a extreme boat (in this it is different from the sandbaggers) but it is fast and enjoyable to use. The cockpit is long and comfortable and it is self emptying by means of two limber holes in the transom. The sailing plan, with a gaff mainsail and a jib fitted on a fixed bowsprit, looks nice and traditional; efficiency (compared with the Marconi rig) is better than normally believed and the sail plane center of effort remains - with equal surface - low. The strip planking construction method is fully justified: time and effort are compensated for by the satisfaction of having a nice-looking classic boat. Mast, gaff and boom may be made in wood as well as aluminium. More information at: www.bcademco.it
