Gwi Yaat Chit

Today I launched my winter 2013 project, a hybrid 17′ Chesapeake kayak by CLC boats. Learned so much building her and she paddles like a dream. The hull is made from mahogany plywood, while the deck is bead & cove cedar strip. She is named “Gwi Yaat Chit” which means Princess in the Gwich’in language. The Gwich’in Nation is located in the northern part of the Northwest Territories, Canada where I worked with youth over five summers. The kids taught me so much, I had to name my kayak in their language.
