The houseboat PIKE measures just shy of 19′ LOA. She provides reasonable accommodations for two tall adults and is seaworthy enough to be moved from place to place in up to 3′ waves. She can be built and stored in a standard garage.

Garvey hulls such as this one have a noisy slapping tendency and also tend to blow around at anchor. The box keel is meant to address these potential problems

Particulars:

  • LOA: 18′11″ (5.77m)
  • LWL: 16′8″ (5.08m)
  • Beam: 7′ (2.14m)
  • Draft: 10″ (0.25m)
  • Displacement: 1,732 lbs (786kg) (in fresh water, loaded)
  • Light vessel: 1,100 lbs (499kg), approx.
  • D/L ratio: 167
  • Power: 10-hp, four-stroke gas outboard motor

The cabin sides can be lowered, reducing windage and increasing visibility when underway. The cabin sides, when raised, looked disproportional on a lower-sides iteration of the hull. The higher balance nicely when the coach roof is in standing-headroom mode. A 10-hp motor should easily deliver 10 knots of speed.
