Here’s our friend (and his many friends) Giacomo sailing and rowing against the tide on a two-month journey of discovery, adventure, and ecology.  And, wait — there is more.  This is only the first step in many more adventures…

You can watch the video here:

And, from Giacomo:

“The boat is a Ness Yawl, of course Iain Oughtred design, built in Venice, Italy by Roland Poltock, an English master ship wright who lives in Venice, on our web site you can find so many pics and videos, and information about the boat and Roland.”

What will Giacomo’s next challenge be?  Sailing/rowing from London to Istanbul.  “From the North Sea to the Back Sea.”  “From London to Istanbul, no engine, only wind and human power, 5,000 km across the history of rivers like the Thames, the Rhine, the Danube and then the Black Sea. I will leave from London in March 2010 and I should be able to reach Instanbul in September, October, according to the rivers conditions.”

It would be hard to find any fault in these noble endeavors — All cheers to Giacomo and his team(s).  Please feel free to comment.
