A New Ninigret. Plus, A Confession.

Here is a recent photo from Tiernan Roe of Roeboats in County Cork, Ireland:

and he has a great blog describing the build process:

A close reading of Tiernan’s blog shows that he, too, was inspired by Wipke’s WINDVINDER, our first posting at this flog.

NINIGRET is, of course, a John Atkin design.  Plans for her are available here:

The Second Part (the Confession).

One of the greatest sins an author can make is to fall in love with his/her subject.

Thank goodness I’m not a professional writer.

I first committed this sin when I was researching S&S’s SPIRIT Class in San Francisco for WoodenBoat.

I had to remove myself from the process… because I’d fallen in love with BLACK SPIRIT, and ended up buying her.  Long story, but Brookes Towns ended up writing the piece for us (WB No. 156) and did a fine job with it.

Today’s confession:  I shouldn’t write about 210s anymore (see previous entries).

Why not?  Because it seems I’ve sold my beautiful IC (thanks for your help, Steve Clark).

and I’ve bought the 210 of my dreams:

Well, I’ll keep writing about her, but will insert asterisks when my objectivity is being compromised….

(I wonder what the other sins are that a writer commits?  Surely, you have some ideas.  Please post under “Comments” below.)

Doing what I can to help the marine industry.

  1. I’ll bet you stay a lot drier. Love to grab a sail next summer. Any other 210’s in the area?

I’ve always liked this design and remember Bolger’s description of sailing against a 110 years ago. He remarked on her ablitity to dance over the waves going to weather.

    Have fun,

You’re on, Russ. Drier, and not nearly as much swimming….

I hope to find some more here. Or maybe mix a fleet of Atlantics, Etchells, IODs…. that could be great.

  3. Who needs objectivity, sometimes emotional can be as informative as calm and factual, especially when its the emotion of someone with some credibility.
If it presses your buttons, lets hear about it.
